Just Why Do Bees Make Honey?

why-do-bees-make-honey

Why do bees make honey? Now that is an interesting question but not too difficult to answer.

Bees making honey is what honey bees do, it is their soul purpose in life to collect pollen and nectar which they return to their hives to make honey, eat, feed their queen and their babies with.

Liken it to us humans; we go out to work to provide an income in order to buy food with which to feed ourselves and our families. There are also many of us who prefer or enjoy making our own food by growing it. Bees making honey depend on your honeybee gardens which are largely responsible due to the plant pollination of honey bees.

There is an age old question “what is the meaning of life?” it is one that just about everyone asks themselves.

We all have a purpose in life although this is often unclear!

It’s exactly the same when the question “why do bees make honey?” is asked; it’s for survival purposes and to provide a source of the purest food source on earth.

Honey bees do not hibernate which might surprise some of you; however they do not like the cold winter months.

Instead they huddle tightly together forming a ball to keep themselves warm and continue to eat the fruits of their labours, the honey they make until the spring arrives.

Their cycle of life begins all over again and hopefully having survived the winter months the bees start the production of bees making honey all over again.

Honey bees do not actually know that one of the reasons they make honey is to provide nourishment for us and other animals.

There is the African honey badger that is said to be the most feared animal on earth!

This creature assumes it is its God given right to raid honey bee’s nests not just for the honey the bees make but also to eat the honeycomb which is where the bees produce the honey they make and raise all the little baby bees.

There are many believers who believe that honey bees are an essential part of evolution in as much God provides us with everything we need to eat and drink in order to survive.

The prophet Mohammed believed and taught the reason he believed bees make honey as a way to cure us all from all types of illness.

Quote: "from the holy book the Qur’an: “And thy Lord taught the bee to build its cells in hills, on trees and in men’s habitations. There issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours wherein is healing for mankind”.

Also stated: the prophet said: “Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur'an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you both remedies, the Qur'an and honey.”

Bees make honey it is said to provide us and them with an essential healthy food source and an amazing natural medicine which although did go out of fashion for a while with the introduction of sugar and man-made antibiotics.

Now there is a huge revival as people including some of the worlds top scientists, like Dr Peter Molam who discovered the Unique Manuka Factor of Manuka honey, have rediscovered the uses of honey that our special little friends the honey bees make for us.

Bees make honey in many different places, there are all types of bee hives and not just the ones we are familiar with.

Some can be found in hollowed out wood, in wall cavities, holes in the ground and even tree tops like the Africanized honeybee variety.

The honey the bees make and there are many kinds of honey, is in quantities far in excess to their own needs.

This is just one of the reasons beekeepers are able to produce along with the bees the amazing organic and wonderful raw honey we all benefit from.

Making honey is no mean feat for our little friends, they work incredibly hard and any beekeeper worth his salt will allow the bees to feed from a mixture of their honey and pollen in the form of pollen patties over the winter months.

Other beekeepers whom I personally don’t agree with will try to feed their bees a mixture of high fructose corn syrup.

This is one of the many factors attributed to our disappearing bees, it is believed that this mixture they give to their bees has been heated to such a high degree it actually poisons the bees!

For goodness sake, just allow the bees to eat the honey they make before bees making honey becomes history!

Why do bees make honey? Well hopefully this article has given you the reasons to that question. The next time you eat your honey please be aware of how much effort goes in to producing the most delicious natural food there is and the benefits you are receiving.
