Tanzania Produces Wonderful
Tropical Honeys

Tropical Honeys

Tropical honeys and African honeys particularly types of honey from Tanzania are not the amongst the usual honey varieties that firstly spring to mind.

So it was with great delight that I met the charming Jiten Chandarana Managing Director of Honey Care Africa at the UK National Honey Show in October.

He offered me my first taste of honey from Tanzania for the very first time and very nice it was too.

This tropical honey was so deliciously sweet I quickly delved into my purse and managed to scrape together enough cash to buy myself two jars.

These I will enjoy whilst continuing on my journey of discovering all the amazing benefits of honey I have been on for several years.

My purse and my bank balance had by this time taken a severe battering because of my bulging shopping bag which had been filled by my visit with all types of honey and other wonderful bee products which were for sale.

These included all the other wonderful bee products they sell which included Pure, Forest and Highland blends.

What Types of African Tropical Honey do they Sell?

Their Tropical Types of honey are 100% naturally pure and free from any type of chemical contamination, these ae wonderful and amongst the best type of honey varieties you can find and benefit from and because of their contaminated free areas they are proud to call their African honey "Organic".

Honey Care Africa also produces their own Beekeepers Delight type of honey which they blend with cinnamon, ginger and quite soon cloves.

Wow I bet the clove honey will be a very tasty new experience for us! They now produce more tropical honeys such as their own blends of Acacia and African Blossom

These will I suspect to become be hugely popular once their honey production extends. They place great emphasis in particular on their blend they have named as Beekeepers Delight.

Pure Tanzanian honey of the Highland type was the African honey that found itself quickly added to my bag but only one and a half jars made it to my kitchen cupboard!

The reason for this was of course my passion for the benefits of eating honey and tasting as many as possible! It was highly unlikely that the remainder would still be there before the weekend was over.

Who Are Honey Care Africa?

I had a fascinating conversation with Jiten; he kindly agreed to have his photograph taken with me as you can see above.

Jiten told me about Honey Care Africa and his vision to enhance the livelihood of beekeepers in Tanzania and to globalise their types of honey from Tanzania.

Their plan is to expand their business and become the most vibrant export company of Apiculture Products in East Africa.

They work with organized local bee-keeping groups right across Tanzania which until recently has been male dominated.

This has changed as they now have a training program in place to train women also using more modern beekeeping methods, they have chosen the Langstroth design which is much favored by many beekeepers world wide when choosing their own bee hives for the fast becoming popular hobby of backyard beekeeping.

At the time of meeting Jiten only 10% of their own beekeepers were women however, he assured me this was about to change in a big way.

Ladies, please don't be afraid of becoming a beekeeper yourself, there are many out there and not just in Africa. It is is very rewarding experience.

What else does Honey Care Africa Sell?

Honey Care Africa also produces and exports to places such as the USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey (and hopefully before too long to the UK) the following:

  • Beeswax
  • Bee Honeycomb
  • Bee candy

At the time I met Jiten they had exported 140 tons of a selection of different types of honey and 60 tons of beeswax.

Part of Honey Care Africas vision is to add products such as candles and cosmetics to expand beyond just these particular products by learning to use the Propolis from their hives.

I sincerely hope they do, Jiten was unsure at the time and told me they threw theirs away! That quite horrified me because Propolis is actually an amazing product which is used widely in the cosmetic industry and even toothpaste for good oral hygiene. I gave him a few suggestions.

I am in need, after writing this page, of a Honey Boost and no prizes for guessing which honey I shall choose from my vast array of honey varieties that are stacked up in my own kitchen!

Other Types of African Honey

There are many, some which don't even have a name! Some are made by wild honey bees high up in trees and some primitive tribsemen actually risk their lives to get at it!

They're families are in ecstasy if this is acheived. They may not have caught up with the rest of the modern world, which isn't a bad thing, but they do recognize it is a highly nutritious form of food.

They are great lovers of honey wine in some parts of Africa with a ready supply of honey due to the vast amount of wildflowers growing everywhere.

A honey bees dreamland, nectar, nectar everywhere! Perhaps you would like to take a look at a company from the Cape area. They explain their wines and love of it in great detail.

And if you would like to try making some just for you I have a recipe for making honey wine.
