Manuka honey, lots of hype surrounds the healing properties of this kind of honey
so let’s discover why it is so special for many health and medical problems
.

There are many of you who have heard of Manuka honey research which is mainly due to the dedicated work of Dr Peter Molan from the Waikato Honey Research Unit in New Zealand.

He has spent the best part of twenty six years researching the health and medical benefits of this extraordinary honey.

You must admit that is a pretty impressive feat by any means and the results of his research just prove what our ancient medicine men particularly the Maori people have known for thousands of years. Dr Molan has extensively provided the written proof.

What is Manuka honey and
why is it so special?

Manuka honey is the result of the nectar collected by honey bees from the beautiful looking Manuka tree (see photo above). Because the Manuka tree is a close relative of tea tree plants it is believed by some to give Manuka honey its extra special qualities for healing.

This tree usually grows between 12 – 15 feet in height unlike its close relation the Kanuka which grows to 40 feet high or more. Certainly Manuka honey has an extra special ingredient recognised by most of the medical profession in the aid of healing wounds and promoting good health for us all.

The Manuka tree is related to the very beautiful country of New Zealand, however there is a closely related tree called the Jellybush which is native to New South Wales in Australia.

The honey which is made from this plant is very similar to New Zealand Manuka honey and the Australians actually call this Australian Manuka Honey. I have yet to try this myself, however there are many articles praising its effectiveness.

Because honey is sticky we can forgive that because as well as healing us it tastes so very nice!

To find a solution around this for those who find honey effective but a bit messy when using for medicinal purposes scientists has invented Medihoney.

Medihoney is a dressing in the form of a sterilized pad which is un-sticky and applied to many wounds including abscess and burns with the most amazing results. I have seen Medihoney in action on a severe pressure sore on my sister-in-laws foot with brilliant results.

This excited me so much as I have been going on about the health benefits of honey for years to anyone who would listen!! This is the reason I wanted to design this website, to inform as many people as I possibly can about all the benefits of honey.

I don’t expect there are many of us who haven’t heard of the benefits of tea tree, this is found in many forms including the use in shampoos and conditioners.

It has powerful natural antibiotics and many of us buy it as tea tree extract to which we can add to our own choice of hair treatments and cleansers.

It is only right that we all have the freedom to do this as we all tend to have our own favourites. This is also a very effective way of keeping head lice at bay, they really don’t like this at all…….good job!

Scientific Proof of Manuka Honey Research

Here are a few stories of the healing powers of Manuka honey:

A man who suffered severe burns when boiling water spilled on his hand. He treated this with honey but missed his thumb which didn’t appear to be so badly burned. The following day the hand was still red but there were no blisters whereas his thumb was badly blistered.

This proved to him the effectiveness of honey as a powerful healer for his burns and he continued his treatment (including his thumb) and all his wounds healed in a very short time. So next time if you burn yourself badly reach for that jar of Manuka honey really quickly.

There was even a registered nurse who tried this treatment. She suffered a burn on her arm and applied a burn ointment. A week or so later she burned her other arm (she was accident prone) and to this burn she applied honey.

A few weeks later the burn treated with honey had completely disappeared whereas the ointment treated burn was still there.

Further Proof about Manuka Honey?

In the 1990s a Dr. Subrahmanyam compared honey treatment to three other widely used methods for burns. These were silver sulfadizine, polyurethane film and amniotic membrane.

He divided 104 burn victims into two separate groups. One group received the conventional treatment silver sulfadizine and the other group were treated with honey. Now I’ll tell you the amazing results.

Within seven days 91% of the wounds treated with honey were free from infection compared to 7% of the others.

A respected scientist from the Netherlands
who reviewed the effects of honey
on burns concluded:

"Quote" Burns that are treated with honey heal more rapidly and effectively in a patient-friendly way without infection complications and with little pain and relatively little scarring. The honey treated burns enter their end phase within six weeks which is unique and not seen with any other wound dressing. "Unquote"

The reason this honey has been found to be so effective is its ability to stimulate the hydrogen peroxide needed to promote the healing of wounds.

It is not just external wounds that are effectively treated, it will cure MRSA and cure and prevent stomach ulcers. It is an absolutely brilliant way of ridding pimples, skin infections and even the dreaded Acne of which millions of people suffer.

What Else Can Manuka Honey
Cure and Help?

Manuka honey is very beneficial as a natural acne scar removal which is always best as a first choice rather than steroid creams. These can damage your skin and are are most often ineffective.

Quite often they have a drying effect which will leave your skin quite flaky. This honey is excellent as a choice for honey beauty because of it's wonderful moisturizing effects.

It will also keep your eyes healthy, give you an amazing burst of energy which is long lasting because the body absorbs this slowly unlike the effects of sugar.

In fact there are so many uses of this honey that you are able to treat and cure yourself in such a natural way and manage to save yourself a fortune in medical costs by doing so.

It is perfectly safe to use on your pets although they must never bee given the same dosage as a human. For example I have a little dog who weighs six and a half kilos. He has a daily dose of half a teaspoon.

It was difficult to get him to eat this, he didn’t like the flavour but he loves cheese! I grate a small amount of cheese and roll it into a ball with the honey which he swallows so quickly he doesn’t even notice the taste of the honey!

There are others who keep horses who swear by the use of this honey. They say it is a good deterrent for fleas and barn flies. Certainly worth a go.

Because this honey is so good at curing almost anything it tends to be shunned by the big boys who produce chemical medications. After all this would put them all out of business wouldn’t it!

However I have my suspicions that they know and probably use it on the quiet! If you would like to see just why and how medicinal honey works please read this article which provides a very simple explanation for you.

If you are now off to the store to buy yourself some Manuka honey for the medical benefits of honey please be really careful you are buying the real thing.

There are so many fakes on the market that unscrupulous suppliers will try to pass off as the real thing. Check the details on the jar, it will state very clearly that it has a UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) and personally I always use 16+ or above.

You can also go honey shopping in my on-line honey shop, I just love honey shopping, the kinds of honey I have discovered over the years are absolutley wonderful with many varied flavours.

If you have been medically cured or you just love this honey why not write to me telling me your stories. Can’t wait to read them.
