Honey Bees
I need to know if hydrogen peroxide will kill my honey bees if I spray it on my plants. Thank you for any information you can give me. Linda Hughes
Jan's ReplyHello Linda, this is a great question and I am so pleased you have no wish to harm our bees in any way.
In the organic plant world it
wouldn’t be advisable to spray your plants and gardens with neat hydrogen peroxide.
The most effective and natural way would be to use a product called Neem. This is very effective at killing off real plant pests but it will not harm beneficial bugs and most importantly our bees.
Neem oil is effective at keeping control of all the pests that chew on plant leaves by starving them of the hydration they need or repels them thus keeping them away.
It also will
not make your plants and vegetables unsafe for you to eat unlike those awful pesticides such as neonictinoids which are responsible for many honey bee deaths.
You can safely use this once each week and for best results spray in the evenings and not during the day when the sun is still burning brightly.
We need to do everything we can to keep our bees surviving and it is great you wish to do this.
Responsible organic farmers use Neem also, it is oil based and great too for fungal infections of plants.
I wish you happy gardening and thank you for thinking of our pollinators which also include butterflies.
