How can I tell if the honey is "Raw" does it look different?

by Bob Vening
(Shizuoka, Japan)

Most honey available always notes "Natural" and/or "Pure" which confuses me.

To try and purchase 'Raw' honey, please advise if it is different in colour and texture etc?

Many Thanks, Bob

Hello Bob, I understand your confusion. There are a lot of honeys on sale with mis-leading information on their lables.

You should seek out beekeepers wwho will sell you real raw honey straight from the hive or a local farmers market if possible.

If this is not possible, there must be an address on the lable stating where the honey has come from.

It must also state that it is unpasteurized and 100% honey.

Try not to purchase any honey which states it has been blended, because we won't know just what it has been blended with!

All honey differs in color and texture depending on the source of nectar the bees collect and take back to the hive.

Of course, the best way to ensure you will benefit from really raw honey would be to become a beekeeper.

This really isn't difficult, it is very easy to set up one or two hives even in your own back yard.

Just imagine having all that wonderful honey on tap for yourself, family and friends.

If this isn't possible look for beekeeping associations in your local area, they will be happy to direct you to a local source.

Warm Regards
