Honey Facts

honey-facts

Honey facts are not only interesting there are also facts about honey that are steeped within the very history of man.

Honey nutrition facts cannot be ignored, they are too important to be and are certainly just one of the benefits of honey we enjoy today.

Honey Facts # 1

Honey is the only food created by an insect, the honey bee, which humans eat, not just in this age but since man made its first discovery.

It is impossible for man to create this substance although many have tried.

The closest food source to resemble honey in both color and texture was invented in 1881 by a Scottish business man named Abram Lyle.

He invented "golden syrup" from refined sugar; however, neither he nor others have managed to introduce the incredible enzymes that are in honey itself. That is a honey fact!

Honey Facts # 2

Honey nutrition facts are so not overstated! There is no nutritional value in refined sugar or poisonous sugar substitutes.

We don’t need to use them and most honey varieties are sweeter.

Having recognized honey as a great "seller" it is an added ingredient in many natural and gourmet foods from preserves, sauces right through to Americas best known breakfast cereal "honey nut cheerios"

Honey Facts # 3

The nutritional value of honey is widely referred to throughout history. No less than sixty one times in the Christian book the bible and twice in the Holy book the Qur’an.

Legend tells us that as Christ rose from the dead he asked for food to be bought to him to prove his resurrection. This consisted of broiled fish and fresh honeycomb.

John the Baptist existed in the wilderness, legend tells us he existed on a diet of locusts and honey collected from honey bee hives built into rocks.

The Islamic faith appear to take their holy book the Qur’an far more seriously, they literally on the whole, follow its teachings.

Their holy man Mohammed is known famously for his quote: "Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur'an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you remedies, the Qur'an and honey".

The Jewish faith recognize honey as a Kosher food although to them no food is labeled as kosher unless it is completely unhampered with, this is the reason they will only eat 100% pure, raw honey.

Honey Facts # 4

Honey is the only natural substance capable of healing both internally and externally. It properties are unique containing unique enzymes which can only be introduced by the honey bee itself.

When eaten it almost magically recognizes the difference between good, essential bacteria to the harmful bacteria varieties. It will destroy the bad forms of bacteria but leave magically the good alone!

Honey Facts # 5

Its ability to recognize bacterial and fungal infections along with its unique properties make it the only natural substance capable and safe to apply externally to human skin.

Certain types of honey are so powerful medicinally; they are used as effective natural medicines in hospital where all conventional medicines have failed.

This is just one reason it is so effective for the use of healing spots, zits, eczema and acne amongst other skin rashes and conditions.

It is also a humectant meaning it traps moisture and for these reasons has been used globally for centuries in beauty régimes. Unlike steroid creams it will not cause skin tissue damage.

Honey Facts # 6

There are so many varieties of honey it would be impossible to ever draw up a list of them. The belief that honey is considered a sweet substance is not essentialy true.

There are some that are most definitely not sweet. One of these is Strawberry Tree Honey, it doesn't live up to its name!

It is a fact that it also comes in many forms, not always liquid as most people assume. It isn’t always made from flower nectar either.

Honey bees in certain areas collect sugary secretions from the leaves of trees, these are more often known as Honeydew or tree honeys.

Honey Facts # 7

It is the only naturally made product that can be used to improve health, used as a medicine, cooked with, added to drinks, is capable of being added to other natural foods such as cinnamon, garlic and ginger to make effective home cures.

It has been widely used for centuries in Ayurvedic and Yunani medicines and even though it took a bit of time is now recognized in areas of medicine as Ram Ban, which means it is "very effective".

Honey Facts # 8

It is accepted and respected that vegans do not eat honey because they believe it to be an animal product, even though the honey bee is an insect. Most vegetarians do eat honey, there is a difference.

It is interesting to note that whether they are vegan or not all humans would have been weaned with milk for the first few months of their lives.

Honey is an acidic substance, has a low water content, is fat free but also a healthy form of carbohydrates which is why it can be included although minimally, in the diet of many diabetics.

Honey Facts # 9

Although the honey bee works extremely hard seemingly without a break, the honey they make in the spring is one they will never really enjoy. Their life span is short, approximately six weeks.

The honey they make in the spring will be enjoyed and savored more by honey bees born and raised in the summer.

Although they do make such an abundance of it, this is not meant for our consumption, it is made for them to feed from during the winter months.

Honey Facts # 10

The first honey produced can probably be traced back to the origin of the honey bee in Africa more than 100,000,000 years ago.

However, its benefits were studied and written about more by the ancient Greeks.

China it seems is the country known to produce more honey than any other. However, in 2011 a report was released with warnings given regarding the nutritional value of their exports.

"Made in China" would be a label we should steer away from if we go honey shopping.

It isn’t just the Chinese we should be wary of; honey off the shelf should be avoided at all costs.

There are many who are guilty of adding other substances and passing it off as the real think! Just don’t go there.

It is possible to buy it in its natural state however, you may have to do a little honey hunting!

Better still it would be easy to "make your own honey" by setting yourself up as a beekeeper. That way you would have your own raw honey "on tap" What could be better than that!
