Honey Face Mask

Honey Face Mask

Honey face mask - sounds pretty good to me! You too can make your own homemade face mask and why not, pamper yourself during some quiet time.

Cosmetic companies make a fortune out of women who buy their products. We need to be very careful with some of these.

The effectiveness of their natural ingredients can actually diminish if they combine them with stabilizers and chemical preservatives.

We can make a simple face mask using a selection of natural beauty products very easily at home.

A natural face mask can be a very effective way to rehydrate dry skin, remove excess oils in oily skin and act as a protective barrier against weather and conditions that give our skin a battering.

A honey face mask is one of the most effective anti-ageing substances. It will reduce the appearance of scar tissue over time, as well as tighten and beautify the skin, and it is best if made fresh in your own kitchen.

Honey has antibacterial, antioxidant and antiseptic properties and has a similar effect to that of hydrogen peroxide. It shrinks our pores without drying out the skin and plumps up tired looking skin beautifully.

However, before you start you will need a really good Healing Honey, one that has a high level of antibacterial properties.

Remember the golden rule when purchasing jars of honey. Those on supermarket shelves are on the whole fakes, please use a Real Honey and not one full of artificial additives.

A honey face mask can be mixed beautifully with ingredients you probably already have in your own cupboards or fridges such as oatmeal, turmeric, yoghurt, egg, avocado, lemons and even fruits like bananas, pears and even mangoes.

The beauty of these ingredients is that they also act as powerful skin cleansers leaving your skin feeling refreshed.

Prepare Your Skin

For any honey face mask to work really effectively it is best to prepare your skin beforehand. Gently wash your skin with a chemical free, gentle soap, rinse well with warm water and pat dry with a clean face towel.

Next step is to open the pores of your skin, soak a facecloth in hottish water, not too hot because this will burn your skin.

Smooth on your chosen honey face mask and relax for 20 to 30 minutes maybe even using some cucumber slices placed over your eyes which helps to soothe them too.

Interestingly cucumber has exactly the same pH value as the skin!

How to Make a Homemade Face Mask

A good basic recipe would be a honey and egg face mask. You could if you wish use the yolk but the easiest way would be to whisk the white of an egg until very stiff, stir in a teaspoon of honey and spread all over your face.

This will start to slide off as your body warmth heats it up so lay down with a towel wrapped around your shoulders to catch the drips. Simply rinse off when you feel ready.

If you have particularly oily skin it would be best to whisk the yolk into the base, this will remove any excess greasy shine from the skin, leaving it clean with a matt finish but not dry.

If your skin is very oily, don’t add any extra oils in your face mask preparation, however if you have very dry skin try adding just a few drops of Vitamin E oil.

Adding course oatmeal with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of yoghurt can help to exfoliate your skin and nourish it beautifully. Rub these gently into your skin before rinsing off.

You could add the pulp of some chosen fruits too, these have the added benefits of Vitamin C and your skin will soak this up.

Turmeric the spice has many benefits to the skin because it is said to even out the skin tone. Use a sprinkle of this with a teaspoon of honey and the juice of half a squeezed lemon.

Shake these together until completely blended and smooth over your skin. Only use a tiny amount of turmeric, this is a hot spice and will irritate your skin if you use too much.

See how easy it is to make your own honey face mask! Once you have finished and your face is thoroughly rinsed, pat it dry and use a little gentle rose water as a toner to tighten the skin and finish with an application of a chemical free moisturizer.
