Home Made Soap

Hi, Jan I want to make Honey and Aloe vera soap with actual ingredients what is the technique I will need to use for preparation ensuring it will keep its effect or activity for longer period of time with stability?

Making home made soap with honey and aloe vera is a great idea. I save all the slithers of my own soap, these are the little bits that are left when you have almost finished a bar.

When I have collected a cup full I add two teaspoons of water and melt them together in the microwave for about 30 – 40 seconds. They have started to bubble by this time.

I then stir in a spoonful of honey; in fact this is a great way to use up the scrapings left in the jar.

At this stage you could add a tea spoonful of fresh aloe vera juice. Work quickly and stir them altogether then pour or spoon the mixture into a small mold, a silicon cup cake mold is good for this.

Within half an hour your soap will be ready to use. I do find vegetable based soaps work best with this method.

If you haven’t any bits of soap ready for this you can grate up a bar that you have and use the same method.

If you want it to smell nice you could always add a couple of drops of your favourite fragrance but be careful not to get this in your eyes.

Another couple of things you could add is some finely ground oatmeal or coconut which then makes your soap act like an exfoliate on your skin.

Making soap from scratch involves a lot of practice and you really need to know what you are doing because of the Lye you will be using. This is known as cold pressed soaps and you have to wait weeks for the soap to be ready for use.

There is a much quicker way of making your own honey based soap in bulk and this is called melt and pour.

Only use SLS free if you buy it, it is very easy to use as you just cut it into small chunks, melt in the microwave or a double boiler, add your honey and aloe vera, stir it in quickly and pour into any shaped mold you like.

These soaps will last for a long time although ours get used up quite quickly and usually a friend or two pops in and grabs one for themselves. It is very healing on the skin and a perfect way to treat yourself also.

You might be interested in another honey beauty product I make for myself and that is Honey lip balm this is amazing for keeping your lips moisturized, I use it all the time.

Try making your honey and aloe vera soap then write in to let us know all about it. It is indeed a great home-made beauty tip.

Thank you so much for asking your question and I wish you much enjoyment with your home-made soaps.
