The Hippocratic Oath, Hippocrates and Hippocrates Quotes

Hippocrates

Most of us have heard of the Hippocratic Oath which is so named after the father of modern western medicine Hippocrates.

Let’s find out about this fascinating man and why he is considered so highly even to this day throughout the modern medical world and his uses of the medical benefits of honey.

Who Was Hippocrates?

Hippocrates was born in approximately 460 B.C. on the Greek island of Cos; He was a teacher, an author and a roving medical practitioner and a Greek philosopher.

He wrote the Hippocratic Oath and many "Hippocrates Quotes" still used today.

Hippocrates had two sons who became his students in the medical benefits of honey and other natural medicine sources.

This was family tradition because Hippocrates was a student of his own father. He was to carry on the tradition of the Hippocratic Oath.

We can liken Hippocrates to a kindly old doctor, the ones we like to visit because sometimes just talking to us about our problems and being kind is the best medicine after honey.

Hippocrates believed strongly in curing people using all that nature provides us with. This is perhaps why he devised the Hippocratic Oath.

He was extremely fond of using raw honey to cure many ailments and would often mix his honey with Apple Cider Vinegar.

One of Hippocrates Quotes

"It is far more important to know what person the disease has than what disease the person has".

What is the Hippocratic Oath?

This is the Hippocratic Oath as devised by Hippocrates himself. Any doctors reading this? I do hope you ALL abide by this Oath that you took and pay particular attention to Hippocrates Quotes.

"I swear by Apollo the physician and Aesculapius, and Health, Panacea and all the Gods and Goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation.

To reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction,

I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others.

I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous.

I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion.

With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art.

I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter.

I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further, from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves.

Whatever, in connection with my professional service, or not in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret.

While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times.

But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot".

End of the Hippocratic Oath which is a great Hippocrates Quote on its own!

As you can see, most doctors today still abide by the rules of the Hippocratic Oath in particular with the privacy that each and every one of us is entitled to.

Hippocrates Quotes still make a lot of sense. This one is my favorite and perhaps makes the most sense.

"If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health".

Apart from the Hippocratic Oath
What Else is
Hippocrates Famous For?

During his travels, Hippocrates cured the king of Macedonia of an unbearable weakening condition known as phthisis.

This disease is also known as tuberculosis, a very nasty bacterial infection of the lungs.

Although Hippocrates probably did not realise how or why honey was capable of curing bacterial disease we can give credit to Dr Peter Molan, New Zealand.

For almost 30 years off extensive research into the properties of manuka honey and also for giving us the insight into the reasons as to why honey works.

Later, while in Abdera, Hippocrates also cured Democritus, who is known as the first man to introduce the atom to the scientific world.

At this time, Democritos was suffering from what had been diagnosed as madness.

Hippocrates' popularity was increased with healing this noted scientist, as Hippocrates was also touted as the only person able to communicate with Democritos in his state of madness and effectively heal himholistic approaches.

Hippocrates' fame is largely due to his use of medicines that are readily produced by the earth and its inhabitants.

As a natural cure, honey, and other substances produced by the honeybee such as pollen and royal jelly is being rediscovered by those interested in effective, natural relief from a wide range of ailments.

Through his work at home and abroad, Hippocrates is widely credited as being the father of modern medicine.

While today's medical treatments rely on a variety of synthetic medications to heal various ailments that attack the human body,

Hippocrates was particularly fond of certain herbal cures that he believed to be most effective.

Among the natural cures Hippocrates was known for using, honey was one of his most commonly and preferred used remedies.

He was particularly fond of encouraging children who were ill in the benefits of eating honey and was amazed by its healing effects.

If your little one is ill and finding it difficult to eat, try a spoonful or glass of milk and honey during times of convalescence.

Hippocrates regularly and successfully also used honey for wound treatment, the treatment of ulcers, as an expectorant and to treat a host of other illnesses.

He believed that honey and other bee products were a cure all for most ailments and, after Hippocrates death in approximately 370 B.C., legends portray stories of a honeybee swarm living inside of Hippocrates' sepulcher (his burial chamber) continuously producing honey that was used to heal sick children in that area.

Another Hippocrates Quote;

"Wherever the Art of Medicine is loved there is Also a Love of Humanity"

Perhaps the reason why Hippocrates was able to use honey with such wide success is because of the substances found in it.

These healthy substances include vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, as well as vitamins E and K.

It is also super rich in magnesium, calcium, niacin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, potassium, phosphorous, iron, manganese, copper, zinc, sulphur, amino acids, antioxidants, trace enzymes and a host of minerals that support optimal health.

In fact along with its water contents honey actually contains everything we need to sustain us.

As science and health research now know, and what Hippocrates always suspected, consuming foods that are rich in antioxidants increases cellular protection and is helpful in the prevention of chronic disease.

Hippocrates knew this. Perhaps this Hippocrates Quote “Many Admire, Few Know is what he meant when explaining the power of natures cures.

Hippocrates noticed the reducing the effects of aging, restoring vitality and lowering cholesterol attributed to honey.

All of honey activity further reduces the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and other life-threatening ailments.

Aside from its high vitamin, mineral and antioxidant properties, Hippocrates also found success with honey because it is such a strong antibiotic and is particularly helpful in healing dead tissues, wounds and ulcers.

Hippocrates is very unlikey to have know this but because of its high natural concentration of sugar, bacteria cannot survive in honey.

Therefore, wounds covered with honey are not only protected from the air, elements and the risk of further infection, but honey applied directly to a wound effectively kills harmful infectious bacteria when it comes in contact with skin.

So Hippocrates certainly knew a thing or two about medicine and honey even if he didn't know just why honey works this way. He is someone I regard and respect highly.

This Hippocrates Quote Makes a Lot of Sense

"Walking is mans best medicine! I think that he realised that by walking often it would keep our bodies supple and less prone to joint pains such as arthritis and by using what nature provides us with, this is the next best medicine.
