Bacterial Eye Infections?
Eye Infection Remedies for
Healthy Eyes

Healthy Eyes

Healthy eyes, oh how we all want them. Bacterial eye infections are the bane of our lives at times and all the eye infection treatment you have tried never really works effectively!

What Are Bacterial Eye Infections?

These occur when germs and bacteria enter our eyes and can be transferred there unwittingly by us touching our eyes with dirty fingers, not being more careful when removing eye make-up, being allergic to cat and dog furs which fly around in the air and not taking care of cleaning our contact lens.

Types of Eye Infections: These are often given their own names such as "pink eye" "red eye" "conjunctivitis eye infection" "staph infections in the eye" "eye lid infections" "eye infections with pus" and even "dry eye syndrome".

Each and every one of them are the more known common eye infections we put up with and stops us having healthy eyes.

Eye infections with pus means the eyes have been left untreated and given the bacteria a chance to cause a particularly nasty infection on and around the eye lid. This could result in chronic eye infections we often see in our children.

Although it must be said anyone of us can suffer at sometime with this. And a sty on the eye lid can be really painful too. You have tried curing your eyes with chemical antibiotics and often they just don’t work. Why? Because these are used so frequently we are becoming immune!

Staph eye infections are caused by the same bacteria we know as MRSA. They are painful, cause swelling and redness of the eye and must be treated as quickly as possible.

Healthy eyes in children are extremely important and one of the best ways we can help them is by encouraging them to wash their hands more frequently.

These staph infections can live in the nose and we all know that children love to stick their fingers in their noses! The infection is then transferred when they rub their eyes. This will go a long way to helping infection control and eye infections.

Eye Infection Treatment

You want to know how to have healthy eyes? Curing eye infections without antibiotics? You probably already have the answer in your kitchen without even realizing this.

It is your good pure quality jar of honey, no fakes, just the real thing. This is one of the lesser known health benefits of honey and one of my own favorites.

Scientific Evidence

Perhaps you have never heard the famous quote made by Aristotle who wrote in 350 B.C. "White honey is a good salve for sore eyes". His teachings and research was all based around the "simplicity of simple logic". It was his logical conclusion that honey is good for achieving healthy eyes.

Other researchers who have studied the effects of honeys help in relieving eye infections believe that flavonoids present in honey have the necessary properties to access the eyes lens. Along with this, honeys antioxidant and osmotic properties will heal the eye thus improving your sight and curing those eye infections.

A very well known and respected Doctor called Dr Cary, once practiced medicine in Southern California and was very well known for clearing up cases of cataracts with honey.

He felt part of the healing effect to eye infections are due to honeys ability at drawing out the fluid from behind the eye. He wasn’t wrong, we now know that without water bacteria can not survive or multiply. Honey kills on contact these annoying eye infections even when diluted.

In fact there are now many hospitals who pack the necessary equipment needed for cataract operations in honey. This keeps everything sterile ensuring everything is bacteria free. If hospitals use this then think how good this is for helping to keep your own healthy eyes.

More recently The International Bee Research Association examined the effects of honey eye drops on 36 patients who suffered with dry eye syndrome.

They were able to prove there was indeed a positive effect on the patients receiving this treatment. Perhaps you would like to read their findings and the full research document here IBRA Articles.

What About Puffy Eyes?

Honey as a home remedy for puffy eyes works extremely well even when no infection is present. The anti-inflammatory properties of honey are very soothing. Add some to sterile cotton pads slightly dampened with sterilized water and place over your eyes. This will soon relieve the "puffiness".

My Dog has an Eye Infection

No problem, our pets such as dogs and cats develop these bacterial eye infections just as we do. It is perfectly safe to treat them just as we do ourselves.

We love them, we want to look after them and they need healthy eyes and deserve them exactly as we do.

Our pets often extend beyond the variety of the best known ones, cats and dogs. There are others such as horses. If you have one and notice an eye infection use the same methods for them.

Solutions for Healthy Eyes

Boil some water to sterilize it, pour it into a scrupulously clean bottle or jug and allow it to cool. Once it has and never before, as honey should never be placed in anything too hot which kills its healing properties, add some honey.

One part honey to ten parts water is perfect. Give it a good shake and using an eye dropper just drip it into your eyes.

Close your eyes and relax, in fact a perfect time is just before bed and see the results for yourself the next morning. It may take a few days for badly infected eye conditions to clear.

Personally I recommend doing this every night to stop any infections ever getting a hold! It will certainly brighten your eyes when they are tired and a little bloodshot.

Does Honey Sting Your Eyes?

It won't usually sting your eyes; however, this very much depends on the individual. Some say it does but most say it doesn’t. Whether it stings or not briefly is nothing to concern yourself with.

Just be comforted knowing as the solution covers your eyeball it is coating it with a protective healing membrane which has a very soothing effect.

Can I Buy Honey Eye Drops?

Today commercial honey eye drops are popular in many countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. But in India honey eye drops which they make themselves, have for centuries been widely used as a panacea for the eyes. Yes you can buy them, but surely it is much nicer to make your own eye infection treatment.

Best Honey For Healthy Eyes?

I would recommend using a high quality honey such as Manuka Honey because this is considered an extremely healing honey having undergone a huge amount of research. Ulmo Honey is another I would not have a problem recommending. Whichever honey you choose it must be a pure untampered with form.

There are others, and some very good examples are readers testimonials sent in by my readers who unfortunately did not all leave their names. This is what they had to say:

I have started using Jarrah Honey for my eyes which have been really bloodshot. And amazingly, not only is the redness decreasing, I have started seeing much clearer and I am thinking of stopping using my glasses. Indeed, pure quality honey is proving to be a god blessed gift to me. I am sincerely grateful to you for doing such a wonderful job of providing precious information on honey.

Valentine Obuole said: Healthy Eyes with use of Honey

About 3 weeks back i was not seeing clearly with my right eye. The thought of visiting a doctor scared me, because I didn't want them to experiment with my eye; if it was another part of body I won't mind. So I shared my fear with a friend I’ve seen far back applying honey to his eyes. He gave me the confidence to do same and claimed that it's natural and has no side effects. So I tried it and almost immediately I felt the effect. And within 2 days my vision came back to normal. It was like a miracle.

My Reply: I am so happy to receive your comments Valentine. Using honey is great for keeping our eyes healthy too as you have discovered for yourself and thank you for spreading the word.

Honey Eye Drops: When you have mixed the solution of 1 part honey and 10 parts water, do you keep the mixture in the fridge and how long should you keep it before mixing another batch?Thank you, I tried my mixture for the first time last night and it did sting but not for long. I intend to keep up with this. I just need to know how long I can keep the mixture and in fridge or room temperature?

My Reply: Nothing can grow in honey however it will ferment in water if left in warm conditions. I always keep my honey water in the fridge but only make a very small amount each time. This is usually used up within seven days and I would suggest you try the same. A big well done for trying this excellent combination to keep your own healthy eyes.
