Health Benefits of Garlic
with Honey

garlic

As passionate as I am about the benefits of honey the health benefits of garlic can be combined as a tasty if somewhat smelly alternative to our everyday lives.

To stop the smell of raw garlic it easily available to buy as a supplement in capsule form.

Try not to worry too much about the smell on your breath as this can be alleviated by chewing on a bunch of parsley. This could actually be the reason for putting the two on garlic bread!

If you are on a hot date it is probably best to steer clear of both garlic and parsley!

We have all heard the story of flashing a smile at someone without realising we have a big green leaf stuck between our teeth!

I thought I’d warn you about that before I get on to the health benefits of garlic.

These two amazingly healthy ingredients are both powerful natural anti-biotics and as such are widely used in cooking.

It is always wise to err on the side of caution and not overdo the amounts we consume however saying that the benefits of garlic when used with healing honey are indeed a treat to our taste buds.

You could make your own garlic honey for using when cooking by peeling a couple of cloves of garlic and inserting them into a jar of honey, the flavours will combine and the honey will stop the garlic cloves from rotting because of its amazing antibacterial qualities.

It is possible to buy Onion Honey which has a savoury flavour and this kind of honey would in my opinion be the best.

There are many other kinds of honey and there is no rule that says you have to combine garlic with honey just in cooking to enjoy the benefits of the two.

For those of you who are vegetarian and even those of you who follow a raw food diet the health benefits of garlic are as indeed important as the benefits of eating honey.

Garlic is one of those super foods that Hippocrates of Hippocratic Oath Fame used thousands of years ago. This man who is indeed and rightly so to my mind the founder of modern medicine today was a man born to inform us of all nature’s wonderful natural cures and honey health benefits.

Garlic originates from China but these days the top Garlic producing countries are:

  • China
  • India
  • South Korea
  • Russia
  • United States (except for Alaska)
  • Egypt
  • Spain
  • Argentina
  • Myanmar
  • Ukraine

However it is grown in most countries, it is a very easy member of the onion family and can be simply grown in a small pot or container for those of you interested which means you can enjoy the benefits of garlic having grown it yourself.

Food connoisseurs like to mix it with tomatoes and ginger to give their food an exceptional boost, in fact many famous chefs use these ingredients in many of their recipes very often combining them also with healthy honey.

The health benefits of garlic include its antibacterial, antiviral and antibacterial properties which are claimed to:

  • Reduce high blood pressure
  • Reduce cholesterol levels
  • Which in turn help considerably in the prevention of heart disease.

It should be noted here that the power of garlic and its benefits make it unsuitable for those of you who are taking insulin supplements in fact although the benefits of garlic are huge nobody who is taking any form of medication should be eating garlic or taking a supplement before taking medical advice.

It would be best practice to consult with your doctor before increasing garlic into your diet. It is also to be avoided in the diets of your pets because it is quite toxic to them.

It was in a study by Louis Pasteur in 1858 which revealed the health benefits of garlic which subsequently went on to be used as a natural antiseptic for the prevention of gangrene during WW1 and WW2.

Healing honey was also known to be used for healing wounds during the Balkans War by an officer who came across this quite by accident. His soldiers were suffering with dreadful war wounds and he was short on medication with which to treat them.

One of his soldiers who had gone to a local village looking for medicine bought back a supply of honey. There was not enough to go around and the officer decided to apply it to the wounds of his soldiers purely to show he cared for their welfare.

He watched a miracle being performed as the healing honey cured his soldier’s wounds. Click here to see how honey works at curing us.

The benefits of garlic are said to stimulate and warm the body, plus stimulate desires according to both Hinduism and Jainism beliefs.

But Hindus in general will avoid using garlic and onions when preparing foods for religious events. And those who practice Jainism refuse to eat it on a daily basis despite its health benefits.

Muhammad is quoted as saying "Whoever has eaten garlic should not approach our Mosque" It is considered rude by Islam followers because of the odour of garlic.

There is also an old Christian belief that states when Satan left the Garden of Eden garlic grew in one of his footprints and in the other grew the onion!

This I believe is just an old wives tale and should not put you off the benefits of garlic.

Including healing honey in your daily diet is absolutely fine, you will benefit from this in so many ways. But…….please remember the potency of garlic and use the health benefits of garlic in a sensible way.

Everything in moderation my grandmother used to say…….how true!
