Colony Collapse Disorder
What Do We Know?
What Do Bayer Have to Say?
Are They the Reason for Missing Bees?

Colony collapse disorder, this worrying issue just won’t go away! There are now many thousands of us who only a few short years ago were unaware of this serious problem which is a mystery illness that is killing off our bees at an alarming rate.

I have written a few articles on my website concerning honey bee deaths, disappearing bees and more worryingly the implications for us all if ALL our bees become Missing Bees!

What is Colony Collapse Disorder?

Scientists worldwide are trying desperately to understand the causes of this mysterious disease in the hope that they will find a solution and therefore be able to stop it.

Honey bees it appears just abandon their hives never to return. The queen bee is left alone with a few baby bees in the honeycomb which eventually die because they are not being fed by worker bees who fail to return with nectar and pollen.

It has been likened to Alzheimer’s Disease, in as much as the bees lose their sense of direction and fail to return to their hives. They just completely disappear and nobody yet knows where they go!

What is the Cause of Colony Collapse Disorder?

There are many theories, some call it the fault of the Varroa Mite also known as Varroa destructor, this is a parasitic mite that attacks honey bees and is known as varroatosis .

This tiny mite attaches itself to the bee’s bodies and weakens them by sucking hemolymph causing death.

You may like to read my interview with Dr Sanford who states “I still believe that the real culprit is the Varroa bee mite and its role in weakening the honey bee immune system, introducing and activating viruses and causing beekeepers to continue to employ pesticides in a living beehive in a futile attempt to eradicate the mite from the bee nest”

Are Pesticides Responsible for
Colony Collapse Disorder?

This appears to be one of the most likely causes, the use of pesticides which include the terrible neonictinoids that the company known as Bayer produces and add to the honey bee food chain and ours are just too simple to dismiss.

I have personally written to Bayer whom to date have chosen to ignore me, no surprises there! Bayer, if you’re reading this, I dare you to reply!

When this mysterious disease Colony Collapse disorder was first noted in 2006 it appears to correspond with Bayer’s introduction of this pretty lethal pesticide.

You may find the following article useful; this was written by Dr Reese Halter USA who kindly gave me permission to re-publish.

Other Expert Opinions Concerning
Colony Collapse Disorder

My first interview with a true and avid beekeeping expert who closely follows the causes of bee deaths was kindly granted to me by Phil Chandler a British beekeeper with years of experience. You can read our interview in my Beekeeping Forum.

I follow Phil at every opportunity and have just received this email from him which he sends out to his thousands of followers, there is a direct link to Phil’s own website in our interview and I encourage you to sign up.

Latest News about Colony Collapse Disorder

Below is Phil’s Latest Email Notification

"At a time when Bayer's business practices are coming under increasing scrutiny and the US 'Environmental Protection Agency' is caught passing Bayer's bee-killing Clothianidin 'on the nod', Tim Lovett and the BBKA have once more allowed themselves to be used as a propaganda tool for Bayer's lethal products. You can see the video of parts of a panel discussion from a recent event organized by Bayer to position themselves as 'bee-friendly', on YouTube below:

If you think the BBKA - who like to think of themselves as representing British beekeepers - should distance themselves from one of the most unethical corporations on the planet, with Nazi roots and making regular appearances in the 'corporate shame' charts, who manufacture some of the most pernicious, bee-killing chemicals ever produced, then PLEASE ADD YOUR COMMENTS TO THIS VIDEO and show them that they cannot get away with such shameless propaganda"

Phil is as Furious about Colony Collapse Disorder as is anyone who is an avid beekeeper. Please view this video below where Phil explains things further:
