January was such an exciting month for me. My competitions gained in momentum and I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful entries that were so kindly sent to me. Thank you to each and everyone of you. It just goes to prove how popular and versatile honey is.

The Winner and gosh it was a hard choice, was Jen from Paris who wrote about her experiences with honey. Jen told me of a few honeys that even I have yet to explore.

Her passion shone through and her prize is buzzing through the post even as I write this.

Thank you so much Jen and I do hope you enjoy your well deserved prize.

On 30th January my brand new grandson was born in Hospital larchet, Nice, France and that makes me a winner too. I met him when he was a few hours old and instantly fell in love.

You can read Jens entry at the bottom of Kinds of Honey page and two other very close contenders on Honey Recipe page.

Honey Nut Muffins submitted by Richard who is the owner of a superb Vegetarian Recipe Website and a to die for Tangerine and Honey Crepe recipe from an excellent Crepe Website. Enjoy.

Honey bee Gardens and Why We Need Them

Recently researcher Dr Simon Potts from Reading University, England, has warned the drastic decline of honey bees in England, which interestingly is more than double their European cousins, is due to the lack of flowers which leads to a poor diet.

England known as a green and pleasant land is in fact a lethal cocktail of pesticides Dr Potts told the Journal of Apiculture Research.

Flowers are not just beautiful things to be admired from our windows but are of course the staple diet for our bees.

The only way we can reduce the effects is to stop the use of chemicals and grow natural plants in our gardens.

Dad's will love the fact they can cut down on mowing the lawn, the honey bees love all the clover and dandelions which spring up out of nowhere!

Why not leave a corner for the bees and grow a few more flowers, you will be rewarded in so many ways.

Bees like the colors blue, purple and yellow the best and strangely they dislike red!

Mr Langstroth must be thanked for his amazing bee hive invention.

Here is a short excerpt from this great article which is well worth a read.

Langstroths efforts gave us a way to raise large quantities of bees, keep them healthy and collect their honey in a truly sustainable way, without destroying their home. We all owe him a debt and the year 2010, his 200th birthday year is a great time to start repaying that debt in ways that benefit us all.

You can read the full article by clicking on the link below.

So Many Questions
Regarding Diabetes

I am amazed at the amount of emails I receive asking if honey is a health benefit for the prevention or cure of diabetes.

I wanted to extensively research this subject for you even further than I already had.

Diabetes is something that can be controlled using the benefits of honey.

So having received an email from Dr Sathiamurthi who has an excellent website concerning every aspect of diabetes and asking for a link exchange I am delighted to be able to do this for you.

This is a sample of what to expect on his website: In India, Ayurveda and Siddha extol the use of many herbs for diabetes.
They use bread or rice based honey laden, vegetable rich diet to reduce the blood sugar in severe diabetics.
It has worked with success in India and in other foreign countries too.
When you use honey, you get the benefits of many herbs. The honey bee sucks their essence and makes honey. Such a honey is used to treat diabetes. You mix their powders with honey, make it a paste, and eat it.

You can find the link at the bottom of my diabetes page by clicking the link below.

Honey, Lemon, Propolis
and Staying Healthy

Gosh its getting cold here in a little South East England town.
Less than two weeks away from Christmas and the shops are buzzing with people and lights.

One thing I noticed probably because thats what I do is how empty the shelves are of cough medicines and flu powders.
Strange really as they have seemed well stocked the last few months with the threat of Swine Flu hanging over us.
Is it perhaps that people were unconcerned about this threat?
Well even if they were or are the threat of snow forecast by the end of the week has had them rushing off to stock up with chemicals!
Not for my family and friends who are converted honey lovers, oh no, we have stocked up on our honey, Propolis and lemons.
Propolis is of course natures best antibiotic and taken as a daily supplement with two to four spoonfuls of honey a day, one of them in a glass of warm fresh lemon water will keep those nasty little bugs away.
If you are susceptible to dry skin during cold weather snaps, add some honey to a warm bath and soak yourself, this will give you lovely smooth skin and flake free too.
Have a daily face mask with your honey to keep your face radiant, use your honey eye drops to keep your eyes bright and try melting in a bain marie some beeswax with a little honey and oil then pour into containers to set for a lip balm to stop chapped lips.
Whilst all those little honey bees huddle together in their homes to keep warm we can thank them for all their hard work during the spring and summer months for helping us to keep healthy during every season but particularly when its so cold!
Stay healthy with the health benefits of honey.

The health and medical benefits of honey and other bee products are amazingly natural for the benefits of so many things. Take a look around and discover things you never knew before. I have no intentions of becoming a link farm but will certainly consider good websites with further information that is beneficial to my readers. Only a very few links will appear on this page, other useful links will appear at the bottom of a relevant page.

Can We Still Smell The Flowers?

Air pollution is killing the smell of flowers, possibly eliminating the scent trail that helps guide those
terribly important pollinators, like bees, to the plants that depend upon them for survival, scientists believe. The discovery could be one of several factors in the colony collapse disorder that is wiping out honey bees around the world.
